It's Week 5 of the Getaway with ALD Capsule Challenge!
FINAL WEEK! Extras!
Did you see this Magnolia liverpool ball cap Kendel showed off in the Amelia Lane Designs Facebook group? I can't stop admiring it! This fabric is so pretty, it's no wonder it has sold out twice already! Kendel made Annelaine Tangerine Dresses for her two littles and used the scraps to make herself this AMAZING hat. (Pattern link) She's wearing the Astoria Jersey fabric as a top too. Kendel is all decked out in ALD!
This week is all about layers and extras for the #GetawayWithALD Capsule! Keep reading for more inspiration!
What's a capsule challenge?
Here's a quick recap: Over the course of five weeks, the Amelia Lane Designs community is challenging ourselves to put together five essential items for our [Northern Hemisphere] summer plans. Anyone is welcome to participate!
The capsule you make is unique to your life and we're having a wonderful time getting to know everyone through our capsules! A few ambitious members are even planning a couple of capsules, one for each member of the family or for different purposes. I've seen a few people plan capsules for themselves for wine tasting weekend getaway (super jealous!), a personal fitness capsule or a family swim capsule. Especially popular seems to be a capsule for children who quickly outgrew their clothes from last summer!
What else?
Prizes! Oh yes, there are prizes! So many ways to enter to win prizes!
Every week there will be a post announcing the week's sponsors and the theme. This week's theme is Layers and Extras. Last week we did Swim, Week 3 was Dresses and Rompers, Week 2 was Bottoms and the first week was Tops and Tanks.
You can earn an entry for a prize just for commenting on the weekly post announcing the theme in the Amelia Lane Designs Fabric Chat Facebook Group!
You can earn additional entries by posting your capsule makes (using ALD fabric) to the Facebook group using the tag #GetawayWithALD (Did you know that using capital letters in a hashtag helps screen readers interpret them for people with vision disabilities?)
Every week there will be giveaways from the sponsors (free patterns, cut files, etc) and ALD shop credits up for grabs!
In the final week we will share our completed capsule(s) for a chance to win the grand prize, the ENTIRE PATTERN COLLECTION of Annelaine Patterns!
I'm not sure what to put in my capsule though!
The intent of a capsule is usually to have five pieces that mix and match with each other to make an exponential amount of outfit combinations. But this contest is not that strict. Any five pieces that suit your needs is a capsule. What works for you, works for us!
Amelia Lane Designs makes it easy to coordinate anyway. For example, all of the athletic prints coordinate perfectly with the athletic solids. So your athletics will always go with each other. The selection of brushed poly solids, ITY solids and rayon spandex solids also means there's always a solid coordinate for every print on every fabric base!
I still need more help!
How about a Capsule Planner?! Use code DIGITAL to download this planner document for free! You can also grab it in the files section of the Amelia Lane Designs Facebook Group!
While you're in the digital downloads section of the website, you can also find the handy Fabric 101 tool for an understanding of the different fabric bases. Code DIGITIAL will offer that to you for free as well!
Layers, Extras!
This week we're talking about everything else you need for your unique capsule. Do you need some layering pieces? Pajamas? A tote bag? Some mouse ears? A headband?
This is the FINAL WEEK so really anything goes! What's left that you need for your summer?
Let's look at some inspiration!
Layers and Extras!
How about a whole capsule of extras?
Totally!
Sarah made a pajamas capsule for her getaway trip!
Here's what Sarah says about her capsule (PS this is her first of five capsules I've seen her make so far! She is motivated to win that grand prize!!)
This capsule challenge has really gotten me to start sewing more intently and focused on what will go together compared to my usual “I sew what I want and hope it matches something” mentality.
My first capsule I decided was going to be jammies. I’m headed to Arizona next week for a work trip and am sharing a house with a few others, so wanted to have cute pjs that I wouldn’t be embarrassed to be seen walking around the house in. I had a pair of ready to wear blue stripe pj joggers which is where I got the main idea from so that I could also match with those. I used the Good Vibes Joggers from Ellie and Mac in shorts length with the yoga waistband for my capsule shorts. Up next was a pair of Feel frisky panties from Ellie and Mac, because who wants to waste precious ALD scraps?! Not me, that’s for sure! Then some tops. I did a GreenStyle GreenTee (freebie pattern!) one size up from my measurements for a looser fit. The cami (Salt water cami from Max and Meena) has a shelf bra for those mornings I don’t actually feel like putting on a bra before heading down to breakfast, I can just toss on the Fall In Love Sweater (from Ellie and Mac) I made from sweater knit from a mystery box.
Can't wait to see what you make! Share in the Amelia Lane Designs Facebook Group!
