Blog Challenge - Head to Head - SIX Free Dolman Patterns!

Updated: Jun 27, 2020

I had so much fun comparing tanks in our last Blog Challenge, I knew dolmans would be next! Dolman sleeved tops are my all time favorite (so much so that our first pattern was a Dolman! And a free dolman just takes the cake. SO, I made up all six of these free dolman patterns in our rayon spandex solids! This way you can easily compare fit and drape across the different patterns. In addition to my fit results, I'll also be sharing details about the pattern. Is it size inclusive? Does it offer layers? Ooh, how about a projector file, or at least a projector friendly A0? I'll give you all the goods below.

My makes are listed in no particular order. I was not compensated for my opinion or review. General note: I am 4'11, with an 8" side waist. I did not adjust any of these patterns for length.

Are you as excited as I am to see them in action? Let's do this!

The Slim Dolman has been a favorite tee of mine for what feels like AGES! I love that it's such a quick sew, especially with a projector friendly AO file. This time around I used the "lower" neckline option. Some of my favorites in the past have been hacked to a boatneck. The pattern has instructions for you to try it on your own! This pattern is more fitted in the chest, and skims through the waist to the hips. There are tons of hem and sleeve options! Although this time I opted to keep it simple.

I love the curved hem on the Cloud 9, it gives a very flattering drape through the hip. This top is just calling out for a necklace! It's a very flattering cut, and in the rayon spandex feels so extra special, even though its just a tee. There is a kids version available too, and it's a favorite in my house for my daughter as well! I love the casual neckline, neither too high or too low - perfect for any occasion!

The Tulip Tee has so many options! In the interest of comparison, I kept it relatively simple with the plain front and back. I couldn't resist the banded hem though! I can't be the only one who hates hemming right?? I love the slightly lower neckline, and how quick and comfy it is! Bonus is it just looks a little fancy, but it's really just a tee!

The Uvita is a more fitted tee, especially at the hips. Techinically the pattern doesn't offer a short-sleeved option, but I went a little rogue. I just didn't add the long sleeve pieces. For the next one I'll do a little more thorough hacking, as the sleeves ended up a little like cap sleeves. But that doesn't mean I love it any less! The wider neckline is giving me boatneck vibes, and construction was simple - either turn/topstitch or use a facing.

The Paige comes with so many options! High neck, low neck, flounce sleeves, hemlines, dress, tee or tunic - so may different combinations are possible. I kept mine simple for the sake of comparison - high neck, short sleeves, straight hem, top length. The fit is a little boxier than I usually choose, but in these days of staying in, it's mega comfy! I think I need a dress length one for poolside!

The Blanc T will always hold a very special place in my heart - I'm pretty sure this was one of (if not the very first) top I ever sewed for myself! It's a very quick and easy sew, and I have a number of them in my closet already! It's more fitted in the chest, and relaxed through the waist giving a comfortable and flattering drape. The neckline is finished with a facing (bias binding or knit) or turn/top stitch. I really hope the pattern will be updated at some point for layers, but I'll keep making them either way. There is an add-on pattern available to purchase - The Hack Pack - giving you options for sleeves, a placket, even a pocket!

So what do you think? Which is your favorite? I'll admit, I can't decide! I'm just happy to have so many great staple tees to kick off the warm weather. Have you added any rayon spandex solids to your stash yet? They are a nice heavy weight, perfect for all sorts of things! Keep an eye out for a new color being added to the collection in June!
